Getting Ready for Back to School: Organizing School Supplies

I have to admit that as my children get older, the school supplies get easier…at least in the school system that they attend. They require fewer school supplies in high school, which makes my life easier and my pocketbook more full. However, I have always used a method of getting ready for school that not only saves me money but keeps us well stocked for at least a good portion of the school year. But it all begins in July. I regret not thinking about this last month but school was honestly the last thing on my mind. So perhaps … Continue reading

Beat the Back-to-School Blues

I haven’t seen it yet this season, but my favorite back-to-school commercial is without question the Staples ad, which features the exuberant dad gliding on a shopping cart to the tune of “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” while his kids stand near shelves of school supplies with sullen looks on their faces. Priceless. With summer coming to an end, there is no time like the present to celebrate a new school year… and the return of peace and quiet for some SAHMs. Beat the back-to-school blues with a party filled with F-U-N: Invitations: Make your own invitations … Continue reading

School Supply Must Have: Pencial Sharpener that Cannot be Kept in Stock

Every year I buy several small pencil sharpeners for each child. I hope and pray those will work. For years, I have struggled with pencil sharpeners. I know this may sound silly to most but pencil sharpeners make me buggy. I have purchased the big one you use a vice grip for on my dining room table. It broke. I used a battery operated pencil sharpener. It stopped working properly after the third pencil. I have purchased mechanical pencils to avoid buying any more sharpeners. My kids made a mess out of those by pushing too hard so the lead … Continue reading

Save on School Scrapping

My daughter’s school colors are red, white and blue. It doesn’t get more patriotic than that. Yet, I didn’t have the wits about me to stock up on the color combo at post-Independence Day scrapbook supply sales. Now that I am knee-deep trying to put together a scrapbook documenting her year as a first grader, I could kick myself for not buying more red, white and blue scrapbook paper and supplies. I could have saved a ton of money shopping in the days following the 4th of July holiday. It pains me to think of the discounted background paper and … Continue reading

Save On Craft Supplies For Valentines At Michaels

Valentine’s Day is coming up in just a few weeks. Soon, parents will be presented with a list of the names of all the children who share a classroom with their child, and expected to provide valentines for each and every one of them. Instead of buying those pre-made valentines that have cartoon characters on them, wouldn’t it be more fun to make handmade valentines this year? You can save on craft supplies that are perfect for Valentine’s Day at Michaels. While I don’t know exactly how much money I have spent at Michaels over the years, I am certain … Continue reading
