Taking a Break from Difficult Students

As parents we love our children. It comes very natural and easy for most of us. Through our anger, our frustration, and our stress we still manage to find a deep special feeling for our child. As any of you who are parents know, some children can be very trying. Some children have special needs. Some children are unruly no matter how much you discipline them. These are the children that are often dreaded by teachers. These are the children who control the mood and atmosphere of the class. These are the children that teachers often need a “break” from. … Continue reading

Too Good to Be True?

Most frugal advice should be practical and the strategies should be easy to implement. Everyday practices have to make sense, and actually save you money. Sometimes the advice is well-meaning but too good to be true for all but the most hard core savers. Here are a few of my choices for frugal advice, that while good, may also be too good to be true. Advice: Taking your crockpot on vacation. If you pack your crockpot with you on vacation, you can use this appliance to craft hearty, inexpensive meals and save on the high cost of eating out. Just … Continue reading

Disney Tickets Together on Facebook

Everything goes through Facebook these days. Companies use it to network, advertising agencies promote their wares, and people play games and scroll through pictures of their friends. With everything attached to Facebook now, it’s hard to remember the early days of the site, back when it was only designed for students. Those days are long past, and now Facebook routinely performs one of its primary services as a marketing tool. Companies create pages for their products of which people can become fans; sometimes agencies also put together groups where fans come together and discuss their favorite show, clothing line, etc. … Continue reading

16 and Pregnant

MTV’s 16 and Pregnant is a new show that follows the life of a teen throughout her pregnancy. Each episode depicts a different teen’s trials of dealing with relationships, high school, parents, jobs and becoming a parent. The show seems fairly accurate in documenting the problems that teen moms face. Many of the girls end up dropping out of high school or switching to an alternative high school because of the pressures they face from other students and struggling to make ends meet. They are oftentimes fighting an uphill battle to balance work, school and their new family. They are … Continue reading

Little Girl on the Edge – Childhood Bipolar Disorder

Motherhood, for me, has been a journey with unexpected turns and frightening pitfalls. Little did I know when Cassidy first appeared on my doorstep the great challenges I would face being her stepmother. On that day, she looked up at me with a cherubic face, pink cheeks, and a welcoming smile. “Hello, my name is Cassidy,” she said brightly. “It’s very nice to meet you.” I didn’t know what childhood bipolar disorder looked like, but if I could have imagined it, this gorgeous little girl would not be its personification. Cassidy moved into my home at the age of six, … Continue reading

This week I have discussed educational topics dealing with gas prices, runaway school buses and more. If you missed out on an article this week you can always check below for a quick recap of what was discussed. Monday, April 7 Send Home Projects as Extra Credit After previous discussion about send home projects I talked with a teacher who uses the projects as extra credit for the students. Student Absences and Make-up Work

This is the time of year for school sickness. Stomach viruses, strep throat, ear infections, and flu are swarming the buildings as we speak. Believe it or not, my county has even seen a few cases of the chicken pox. More and more students are being sent home or not coming to school at all. The nurse’s office at our school is the busiest place in the building. She is continuously taking temperatures and calling parents. Teachers are striving to keep up with which students are sick and need to see the nurse and which ones are just needing the … Continue reading

Finding a Substitute Teacher

There are many pros and cons to being a teacher. While many envy teachers because of the vacation breaks during the year, taking any other days off from work can be a headache. Getting sick, having sick children, or having an emergency in the morning before work can be a nightmare for teachers. While most professionals can call in sick to take the day off from work, teachers must find a replacement for the day. Teachers cannot simply call in and say “I will not be at work today”. Teachers must find and plan for a substitute. Finding a substitute … Continue reading

Prince William Suddenly Single

So much for that December royal wedding some were predicting… British tabloids took a hit today after several media outlets confirmed that Prince William and his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton decided to call it quits. According to The Sun newspaper, the couple reached an “amicable agreement” to separate, though a spokesman at the prince’s office refused to comment on the break up. The 24-year-old prince and his 25-year-old girlfriend met as students at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland in 2001 and first started dating in 2003. They briefly split for about five months a couple of years ago, but got … Continue reading
