More Reasons Why a Teacher May Suggest that Twins be Separated

Our recent discussion about twins in the classroom has lead me to many different thoughts. My first thought came from my parenting instinct. I questioned why schools would even consider making the decision for parents. My next thought came from the teacher perspective. As a teacher I understand that at times we see things that parents simply do not realize about their own children. My last couple of articles gave discussion to some reasons why a teacher may suggest that a parent separate twins into two different classrooms. Those reasons included academic, social, and dependency on one another. In this … Continue reading

Reasons Why Teachers May Suggest that Twins be Separated

In my latest series of articles I have been discussing twins in the classroom. It seems that some schools have created policies to keep twins separated into different homerooms. Some states have passed bills to allow parents the choice of having their twins or multiples together or separate. I have also listed some advantages of why it is best for twins to stay together. I have even questioned why the schools should get involved in the decision. As you know I am a teacher. Therefore, this article is coming from a teacher’s perspective. Twins in the Classroom: Why the School Should Not Make the Decision

My past couple of articles have addressed twins in the classroom. I was very surprised to find that some schools have a very strict policy that says twins or multiples must be in separate classes. Due to this strict policy, some states have passed bills that allow parents a say in whether their multiples stay together in school or are in separate homeroom classes. Although I feel that a bill should not be needed to give parents a say in their child’s education, I agree with it. There are many reasons why the school should not make the decision alone. … Continue reading

5 Tricks I Use to ‘Make It Work’

I recently wrote a blog in baby where I answered the question that seems to be on inquiring minds: “Just How Do You Do It?” I realize that many of you know this, but by way of introduction for those who are new, I have five children ages 8, 6, 4 and 2 year old twins. I homeschool the oldest two who are in 3rd and 1st grade respectively. My four year old does some version of preschool (although I should note that she just turned 4 a week ago). A commenter on the aforementioned blog asked how I got … Continue reading

The Education Blog in Review: Nov. 6 through Nov. 19

Since our great education blogger, Kaye Siders, left us at the end of October, the Education blog has been missing some reviews. The day before yesterday, I had written the first Education in review since the end of October. Make sure you check those out if you need to catch up! Thanks to Sherry Holetsky who told us about Edline in Does Your Child’s School Offer Edline? I didn’t know about it, and like she points out, it sounds like a great way to keep on top of your child’s progress. Myra Turner talked to us a little about Kindergartners … Continue reading
