Preschoolers Need Lunchboxes Too

At least that’s what my daughter maintains. Long before we started counting down the days until her first day of kindergarten my young daughter insisted that she needed to have a lunchbox. Mind you she was not enrolled in school at the time. She simply could not resist the aisles upon aisles of colorful lunchboxes and bags we passed at practically every store during the months of August and September. Last year when the back-to-school items went on sale I finally gave in to her pleas and bought her the Hello Kitty lunchbox she had been drooling over for weeks. … Continue reading

I Went With My Gut- We Changed Preschools!

As some of you read in a previous article, my daughter is attending preschool two days a week. I had always thought my daughter would love school. She loves to learn and create crafts. She has always loved books and writing. When my daughter began preschool, I learned something very disturbing. Although she is very academically sound, she is also slightly immature or socially behind. I take my children places. They visit family members and fare very well when they are there. My children attend Awana and simply love it. However, in an unknown environment, my children seem to not … Continue reading

We Went Shopping for Preschool!

Time passes so quickly. It is amazing how fast children grow and learn. My family is no exception. Today was a special day for us. Today, I took my daughter to purchase her first lunch box for school (preschool that is). We also picked out a mat, blanket, and pillow for her preschool naptime. Entering my daughter in preschool is my first educational experience as a parent. Until now, I have always been on the teacher end of things. I am very excited and nervous to begin the adventure with her. She will only be attending preschool this year for … Continue reading

Community Activities For Toddlers

If you stay home with your toddler, chances are that you have realized that being a stay at home parent does not always entail as much staying at home as the title may imply. Some of this may be due to your own need to get things done like grocery shopping and other errands, but some of it depends on the temperament of your toddler. Personally, I spend quite a bit of time at home and I could stay at home for days, but Dylan likes to go places. In fact, if we don’t go somewhere on any given day, … Continue reading

Too Cheap to Pay for a Sitter

Or too dumb. The suburban Pittsburgh dad, who’s making headlines for leaving his young kids alone at a playground while he ran errands, falls into that category–in my less than humble opinion. Listen, I don’t look kindly on people who leave their dogs alone in parked cars, so when innocent children are ditched by their parents, be it in a vehicle or at a playground, I typically have a hard time holding my tongue… or in this case, my fingers. If you missed the news flash, Govindaraj Narayanasamy has been officially charged with child endangerment after police claim he left … Continue reading

Curse of the Car Cart

There I stood. I stood contemplating which cart I should choose for that day’s shopping quest. That’s where it all began. I relive this moment in my mind wishing the chance to go back and listen to better judgment and select old faithful. Why is it sometimes so easy to depart from our better judgment. For once I’d like to walk hand in hand, side by side, arm in arm with my better judgment. Sadly, I left my better judgment and walked off into Kroger alone. I selected the car cart. Yes, the car cart…the envy of toddlers and preschoolers … Continue reading

Tricking Kids Into Eating Healthy

Often adults don’t give kids credit for being the intelligent little munchkins that they are. Then, out comes a study that makes you go hmmm… or DUH!… depending on how well you know kids. A few years ago researchers at the Sesame Workshop gathered a group of preschoolers to see if their taste buds could be manipulated by a bunch of sneaky grown ups. As part of the study the kids were first asked to choose between a mouthwatering chocolate bar or some pretty broccoli fresh from the garden. The results: 78% of the kids chose the candy bar while … Continue reading
