Boarding Schools for Troubled Teensby Lyn Newton | More from this Blogger 03 Oct 2007 12:29 PM In a previous article, I discussed the characteristics of a boarding schools. I also wrote an article that described the various types of boarding schools that children may attend. In this article, I will discuss a different type of boarding school. While boarding schools are for all types of children with all types of parents, many of us think of troubled children with bad behavior being sent to a boarding school. This is true of some schools. There are special boarding schools for troubled children. The children are typically in their teens. Parents with children that struggle with behavior and academics in school usually try many options before turning to a boarding school. However, the outside world of peers, television, music, sex, drugs, and movies makes it difficult to get some children back on the right track with school. Troubled teens are often angry, scared, defiant, and sometimes even abusive. If counselors, therapists, and ministers do not seem to be helping a troubled teen, a boarding school may be an option. Boarding schools help keep outside influences away from the child while the child is learning to be responsible with his/her life. There are several different options available. Some boarding schools for troubled teens are short-term. Others are long-term. Some are rehabilitating for abuse such as alcohol and drugs. Therapeutic boarding schools can help children gain a more positive attitude toward themselves and toward their parents. They help give children the tools that they need to have a good, productive life. Some schools are religious based while others are more military oriented. There are also wilderness programs that children can attend. Some of the programs will also allow students to continue earning academic credit while they are at the facility. While parents do not like the thought of sending their child away. Removing the child from everyday life and giving the child the needed advice and help may be just what is needed. Finding the right school, making sure that it is safe, and respectable is imperative. Unforntunatly i made the mistake with Spring Ridge Academy in Mayor, AZ. I strongly discourage any parent who truly loves there child from placing them in an environment like Spring Ridge Academy. As a parent, i want other parents to be aware of schools like this one.
