Bus Duty

This week began my first week of bus duty for the year. Bus duty is required by most teachers in most schools. Bus duty is the duty when a teacher must look after students who ride the bus either in the mornings, the afternoons, or both.

Instructional Assistants

When I first began teaching, teachers' assistants did the paperwork for teachers. The assistants were used to copy papers, grade papers, put up bulletin boards, and any other tasks that did not involve teaching. They usually came by the classroom and asked if you had any needs for the day.

It is a sad fact of teaching that there are bad teachers. There are burnt-out teachers. There are teachers that need to leave the profession. For a teacher that really cares about the best interest of the children, it can be very hard to work with one of the teachers described above.

Parental involvement in school is a key element to a student's success. It is essential that parents know what their child is doing at school both academically and behavior wise. However due to working and busy schedules, some parents rarely step inside of their child's classroom.

Two of my past articles have discussed the various duties of school principals and the advantages of having a female in elementary school administration. While there are several pros to having a woman principal, there are also advantages to having a man in school leadership.

In a previous article I discussed the rise of female principals in elementary schools. At one point in time school principals were mainly male. Today, females make up at least half of all elementary school principals.
