Funding Site I Discovered: Donorschoose.org

If you are a teacher or if you have ever spent much time in a school, you know that schools, and especially teachers, are always looking for a way to gain supplies or money for their classroom. Teachers likely spend more out of pocket money on their job than any other professionals out there.
Most states give teachers an allotted amount of money to spend on their classroom. Many parents also send in money or supplies for their children. However, considering the vase amount and variety of items needed for a classroom, these funds just do not last all year.
Because I know and understand how hard it can be to earn money for special projects or to convince the principal that your class is in need of more funding, I was very intrigued when I heard about a site that funds teacher projects.
I have applied for grants before. The trouble with applying for grants is that many of them are for a large sum of money and only one or two grants are awarded. They usually involved a lot of work and the chances of getting them can be small.
This site is different. The site Donorschoose.org allows everyday citizens to choose to fund a project. The teacher places the need out there and viewers can fund as little or as much of the project as they desire.
Of course I was skeptical at first. I wondered if anybody out there really even looked at the site and took it seriously. Would they help and fund projects? To my delight I discovered that many projects have been funded through Donorchoose.org. As a matter of fact there have been donors in all fifty states. The total amount donated thus far has been $17,614,120! This money has been sent out to 914,997 students across the states!
