Can Your Homeschool Blog Earn Money? {Part 2}

In part 1 of, Can Your Homeschool Blog Earn Money?, I covered how to create a blog posts that attract readers.  Creating good content is the first step to creating a quality blog.  I cover this in Blogging Tips and Tricks as well.  Today, I want to cover a few more background areas before discussing opportunities, so hang in there.  When I say profitable with regards to your homeschool, I do not simply mean financially. Let’s start by exploring what makes a good homeschool blog. The competition is fierce.  While you need to be aware of what your competitors are … Continue reading

Still homeschooling?

As we finish our 6th year of homeschooling and start planning our 7th, we are content to continue homeschooling through high school. People around us however are not quite as content. I have lost count of how many people have asked if we were “still homeschooling” and if we really plan to continue next year. My favorite grocery store cashier, has actually been asking on a weekly basis. I let it go because I am beginning to wonder if her repeated question isn’t a symptom of senility instead of stubborn harassment. I choose to believe the former. As I have … Continue reading

Homeschooling Groups and Resources in Colorado K-Z

To succeed in homeschooling, it is in your best interest to get involved with other homeschoolers. You should join a homeschool network or group near you. For this reason, I have decided to give a full listing of homeschooling groups throughout each state. Yes, there are other sites that list homeschool networks and support groups but none of are comprehensive. Some of them only list Christian, others only list those affiliated with them. So far, for Colarado I have listed resources A-Ch, Co-D , and E-J. Mile High Homeschoolers Support Group and Cooperative Non-profit organization established to facilitate a strong … Continue reading

Great News! Homeschooling is Officially Still Legal in California

It seems almost poetic that I should happen to be in California when the state’s appellate court ruled that a previous declaration that homeschooling was illegal was wrong. While I have not noticed hordes of homeschoolers dancing in the streets of Las Angeles, I can feel the proverbial sigh of relief. California homeschoolers are victorious in the fight to keep homeschooling legal in California. Ever since a Judge declared that homeschooling was illegal in California last winter during a child abuse hearing California homeschoolers have been up in arms. Homeschoolers had many allies in getting this decision reversed. The Homeschool … Continue reading

Introducing Homeschooling to Publicly Schooled Child

I recently came across a discussion where the mother was nervous about introducing the idea of homeschooling to her publicly schooled student. She was afraid he would miss going to school. She was also afraid he would be resistant to homeschooling. Well, the first thing she needs to do is go ahead and talk to the child. It doesn’t make sense to fret over a conversation that hasn’t happened yet. In my experiences when a parent has introduced homeschooling to a child, most have responded very positively and in most cases cannot believe their luck in getting to have their … Continue reading

A Response to the NEA’s 2007-2008 Homeschooling Resolution

The NEA, for those of you who don’t know, is the National Education Association. And every year, they pass a set of resolutions as the ’experts’ in education. To be fair, this is one itsy bitsy tiny piece of their entire resolution. In short, they are against home schooling and always have been. They are so against home schooling in fact, that they’re willing to tout an article, written by a janitor, as good reasons not to home educate their child. But I digress. Below is this year’s resolution, and my response. B-75. Home Schooling The National Education Association believes … Continue reading

Perhaps I am an expert in Homeschooling

When I first started this job as homeschool blogger for families.com, I wrote a post entitled, Disclaimer, I am hardly an expert in education. Meanwhile, in the light of all of the questions I find myself answering of late, I am realizing that I just might be an expert in homeschooling. Considering the fact that I have researched and studied all things homeschooling for the past four plus years, one could say I have the equivalent of a Bachelors degree in homeschooling (with a minor in education). Think about it. In four years of on the job homeschooling, researching the … Continue reading
