Parents Sign Bedtime Contracts

Schools make it top priority to ensure that children are prepared for learning. This includes being well rested, well fed, and well cared for. Schools provide programs to help families in ensuring that children are feed. Many programs also offer students the opportunity to take food home for the weekend. Schools have been known to provide students with clothing, heat, electricity, and even medicine. The one thing that schools seem to have trouble with controlling is ensuring that children get the proper amount of sleep at night. When children are tired they cannot function effectively in the classroom. Studies show … Continue reading

Concerns of Public Education: U = Uniforms

Uniform policies are a concern in many school districts. My school system does not require or enforce a school uniform policy. However, we do have a dress code policy. Many districts are concerned about student attire and placing a uniform policy into effect. Some school officials feel that uniforms would cut down on concealed weapons and drugs in the schools, especially in middle school and high school. Others believe that having a school wide dress uniform policy would cut down on social competition among the students. Students could focus more on academics than social status and appearance. However, placing a … Continue reading

Hello everyone! I am back with my concerns for public education series. Today, I am up to the letter Q. Q is for questionable conduct. It seems as though the education news section is now filled with acts of questionable conduct by teachers, administrators, and other school staff members. She also discussed very inappropriate relationship issues in her home living class. Another case involves a trial with a male teacher … Continue reading

Concerns of Public Education: P = Parents

Yesterday, I discussed parents as being a perk to public education. Today, I would like to move to the opposite end of the spectrum. Parents can also be a concern for education. Some parents actually cause more undesired behaviors than the children do. We have parents at our school, not from my room thankfully, that insist on not following the rules. The rule broken could basically be about anything. Some parents just feel that they are an exception to everything. Some parents will not follow the traffic flow and rules for dropping off and picking up their child. Other parents … Continue reading

Perks of Public Education: P = Parents

I have chosen the same topic for the letter P for both perks and concerns of public education. I feel that parents can be on both sides. First, I would like to discuss parents as being a perk. This year for me has been wonderful in the department of parents. I have had very few complaints or issues that have arose with parents. In fact, I have had one parent that has been awesome to work with in my classroom. Parents can be very supportive for teachers. Parents can help out with extra classroom duties and lighten the load with … Continue reading
