September 13 is National Celiac Awareness Day

Did you know that National Celiac Awareness Day is September 13? There are many ways that you can celebrate Celiac Awareness Day with the members of your family who must stay gluten-free. The date was selected to honor the birthday of Samuel Gee MD, a British physician and pediatrician who published the first clinical description of celiac disease, and to connect the disease with diet. Celiac disease affects about 1% of the population. It is a genetic condition that causes the body to be unable to tolerate gluten. Gluten is a protein that is found in wheat, rye, barley, all … Continue reading

In Memoriam 2011 – Part 4

No recent celebrity splits – more memoriams! July 2011 Former First Lady Betty Ford passed away on July 8th at the age of 93 from natural causes. Ford was known for her outspoken stance on women’s rights and breast cancer awareness during her husband’s tenure as president. But, she is probably most famously known for her post-Whitehouse struggle with addiction and subsequent founding of the famed Betty Ford Center. Television producer Sherwood Schwartz gave us such fun shows as “Gilligan’s Island” and “The Brady Bunch.” Great television? Probably not, but definitely endearing and enduring 40+ years later. Schwartz was 94. … Continue reading

Looking Back at 2011

In just about 48 hours we will close the book on 2011. However, before you make like Wal-Mart and start working on Valentine’s Day preps, now is a good time to look back on the year that was. Creating year in review layouts is a tradition for me. I love selecting memorable moments from the last 365 days and putting them together in a classic page design. Since the passage of time is a vital part of any New Year’s celebration, consider using time-related embellishments in your layout. For example, I recently printed out an image of a large clock … Continue reading

In their current episode, they discuss plenty of news, including a grassroots group … Continue reading

Great Breakups of 2011

Another year is almost finished and with it, several celebrity marriages. Some were predicted (Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries), some were unexpected (Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger), and others were just anticipated from the start (Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher). With Kim and Kris, I think many people predicted their marriage would end so we just simply wouldn’t have to see them on television or the cover of magazines anymore. No such luck. I was pretty surprised by the Maria and Arnold breakup. Yes, there had been rumors of him cheating, but the two had been together since 1977 (married … Continue reading
