The Importance of Lists

People who make lists are often the butt of a few jokes. They can be seen as uptight and over organized. When it comes to taking care of a home, though, list making can be an important tool in keeping track of everything and even giving you the motivation to get more done in a day. Different Types of Lists There are a number of different types of lists that can help you keep your home and your life organized. There are inventory lists, grocery lists, to do lists, accomplishment lists, dream lists, activity lists, information lists and more. Different … Continue reading

The Importance of Getting Organized

Many high school graduates will be heading off to their first semester of college before long. Many of those students are well grounded and have a strong hold on what they want in their future. However others do not. For that group of students who do not have a strong hold on their goals and dreams, college may take them for a whirl. Buckling down and studying and getting a grip on class work may be a little harder for these students. There are some things that students can do to enhance their success in college (and these tips will … Continue reading

Don’t Just Pile It, Organize It!

My daughter moved into her new place over the weekend and as much as I’m going to miss her I’m not going to miss the mess in her room! Now that I have this big old house all to myself it’s time to do some reorganizing and redecorating. I helped with the move, Hailey and I actually took most of the boxes over on Wednesday and then the furniture got moved on Saturday. Today before the Super Bowl I went over to help them get the rest of the boxes unpacked and organize the apartment. I’m an organizational freak. I … Continue reading

Clutter Cutting Ideas

Are you spending too much time looking at your home and sighing because it isn’t as organized as you would like? Do you hurt yourself at least once a week stepping on a lego or bumping into a coffee table? Do you have at least one closet door or a drawer that won’t close or a precariously perched pile of paperwork. If you answered yes to at least one of these questions then it might be time to cut some of the clutter. You’ll be happy that you did. Get One but Toss Two Do you have a weakness for … Continue reading

Learning How to Keep House

Did anyone teach you how to keep house or did you just absorb it? I don’t remember anyone teaching me how to cook and clean, I was just surrounded by full time homemakers and I learned by watching them. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents when I was small and always “helped” my grandmother around the house. I’m not sure she would have called it help but she let me do it anyway. I was raised in a generation of women who were still mostly stay at home mothers. I saw women cooking, cleaning and doing laundry … Continue reading

Easy Bathroom Organizing

Make a fresh start in your bathroom by tossing away the old (and disgusting) and organizing the new. You don’t have to completely overhaul your bathroom, but taking a few minutes to go through a few things will really make a difference. An organized bathroom is easier to clean and looks nice, too. Start with the hair accessories. Get rid of anything that is not working, such as stretched out elastics or broken clips. Why were we saving those anyway? If you are like me, you might even have a few scrunchies from the 80 or 90s laying around. Okay, … Continue reading

Intentional about Organization

I started off this year with a blog about being intentional about my home-based business. I listed several specific things that I plan on being intentional about, with the first pertaining to organization. Organization is a very important component to a successful home-based business. The more organized you are, the more prepared and on top of things you will be. Nothing is worse than having to search for things, which wastes valuable time. Or finding out that you lost or threw away something that was of importance. So make it your goal this year to be intentional about organization. The … Continue reading

What I Like About the 2005 Food Pyramid

You may remember that six years ago the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) came out with a new and improved food pyramid. Growing up I distinctly remember the old food pyramid (originating in 1992) because it was often found on the back of my cereal boxes. I pretty much had it memorized. It was a big deal to me when the food pyramid was updated in 2005 because I was a health science student at the time and a change like that was not only needed but a big deal. Visually the pyramid changed from having categories organized horizontally to … Continue reading

Your Medical Record Binder

As I previously mentioned keeping your medical records are extremely important. When I got the very first mammogram results and ultrasound findings I put them aside. When I got my lumpectomy pathology report I started my cancer binder. In this binder I put all pathology reports, lab results, and I even got copies of my oncologist notes to keep for my own records. My Oncologist seemed to feel that it was not necessary but as you will find out later it came in very handy. If you are going on any major medical journey I feel that keeping an up … Continue reading

Where are the shoes?

One of these days I’m going to be an organized person. I’ve recently realized the necessity of order and organization in relation to shoes. No, it wasn’t taught to me by teaching, graduate school, study sessions lasting months and covering thousands of pages of material, a masters thesis, or even a dissertation proposal — it was shoes. The shoes, of course, belong to our son. How, you wonder, could a child teach me anything about organization with a pair of shoes. The answer is that he didn’t. He taught me about organization with one shoe (not a pair). Being responsible … Continue reading
