Home Based Business Idea – Odd Jobs

If you enjoy variety and you are thinking about starting a home – based business, you may want to start a business doing odd jobs for people. Some people are just handy, and those skills that you have are very helpful to people who are not as handy as you are. Whether it’s patching a hole in a window screen, mowing a lawn, or taking the trash to the transfer station (yes, there are still places that do not have curbside rubbish pickup), people in your community could probably use some help with the things that they do not have … Continue reading

Cleaning Tools You May Not Have Thought Of

Having the right supplies can make all the difference when it comes to cleaning your home. While most of us know about cleaning products that are available, there are some cleaning tools that you may not have thought of. These can make cleaning your home easier. For instance, when it comes to cleaning windows I would guess that most of us use glass cleaner. Spray a little on and wipe away with newspaper or towels (paper or linen). But a squeegee can do a much better job. It also comes in handy when washing your car. Another idea is to … Continue reading

Tools of the Trade

Each of us has certain items that we rely on day in and day out to keep our home based businesses going. The collection of items that you depend on to help you get the job done will vary depending upon what you do for work. Today, I realized that some of the items that I depend on do not exactly fit the traditional description of essential office equipment. There are plenty of things that I use that are things that one would expect to find in a writer’s workplace or a law office. My laptop and cell phone are … Continue reading

Cleaning the toilet is not high on anyone’s list of favorite things to do. Luckily there are products on the market … Continue reading

A Cornucopia of Tools

I know that it is Halloween time now, but Autumn gets me thinking about Thanksgiving. While it is an American holiday (with a somewhat simplified history), the general idea of being thankful for things is a positive practice for anyone. Thanksgiving gives me a warm feeling. Not just because of the family “togetherness” but also because I feel a real sense of thankfulness concerning many of the things I encountered tangentially to my education, yet those tangential things ended up helping me every single day in more ways than I can accurately recount. So, a month early, I’m going to … Continue reading

The Tools for the Job

Recently my sister (and my sister-in-law) headed off for college. Since I’m a bit of a technology enthusiast they both sort of inquired about what to take to college concerning computers and software. I volunteered to call both of their schools to chat with their IT people and some current students in order to determine what (if anything) they might “require” in the way of software (and, subsequently, hardware). I was delighted to find that each of them (at their respective schools and in their respective majors) could happily use free/libre operating systems and software for their studies. While not … Continue reading

Having the Right Tools

I’m not the kind of person who likes to spend a lot of money. I think about my purchases very carefully and make sure that I’m not just being wasteful. At the same time, I do enjoy having new things. You can only imagine the internal battles I have with myself. Last night, I bought a new laptop. It’s a 15-inch, and it’s really nice. I haven’t the foggiest idea what all the bells and whistles do, and I imagine it will take me a while to get it all figured out, but it will be a fun process. We … Continue reading

Must Have Tools for Scrapbooking

When it comes to scrapbooking there are some must have tools you need. Believe it or not you really don’t need a ton of stuff. I know many people who are reluctant to get into the hobby of scrapbooking because they think it requires spending oodles of money. Granted you certainly can invest a lot into your scrapbook supplies but there are some basic, must have tools that will get the job done just fine. First, you need an album. If you are short on cash you can find a nice album priced right at virtually any store. Walmart, Target … Continue reading

The Tough Job of Monitoring Media

Just as there are more tools to help monitor your child’s media use, there are also more opportunities for inappropriate material to sneak through. A prime time television program that is rated G may contain commercials for R rated movies. And a PG show, which most parents may consider harmless may actually imply promiscuous sexual activity. Programs aimed at preteens and teens are rife with young extramarital sex and bizarre out of the norm activity, such as partner swapping. A few shows may even introduce the concepts of voyeurism or even pedophilia. Take the recent Teen Choice Awards. While I … Continue reading
