Tips for Library Tripsby Lyn Newton | More from this Blogger 18 Jun 2008 09:57 AM My last article began discussing the benefits of taking your child to the library. Even very young children can have positive experiences from trips to a local library. The previous article discussed some benefits for babies and toddlers. This article will continue benefits of library trips for other age levels. Preschool Story times for this age level will involve longer more detailed stories. Children may experience interactive activities such as flannel board stories, crafts, songs, and more. Children can learn skills to prepare them for school. Children must learn to share and interact with others their age. Even if you do not involve your child in library events (or if your library does not hold events) simply visiting the library can be a wonderful experience. A trip to the library is free and can be great entertainment. There is something at the library for all ages. Children can explore books as well as movies, magazines, computers, and more. Taking your child to the library often is the best way to introduce him or her to books. Introduce your child to the librarian and help them build a relationship together. Do not feel intimated by story time. Some parents do not take their child to story time because they are afraid that the child will not sit and listen. Even if your child does not sit still, take your child for the experience. He or she can wander through the shelves during the story time. Let your child get a library card. Having your child's name on the card will help your child feel that he or she is a true member of the library. As soon as your child is old enough, register him or her for a card. Make a big deal of it and let your child call and tell family members. Learn more about Lyn Newton ![]() Lyn is a kindergarten teacher and mommy to a girl and a boy.
